The clubrooms had previously been used as a bookmakers office, and consisted of the area outlined in yellow. It soon became apparent that for a club that wanted to build and operate layouts these rooms were not large enough.
It was therefore decided that the clubrooms had to be extended at the earliest opportunity, both forwards and up. It was also decided that for security the existing windows should be bricked up and that the new ground level extension should have no windows. And so plans were drawn up and submitted to the local planning authority.
Initially objections where raised in that 'By extending the building forwards we would be taking up an area capable of having 6 cars parked on it', Impossible to park 6 cars on an area of 16ft x 13ft (5m x 4m). Eventually the objection was overuled and construction began.

We where lucky in that all the necessary skills were available 'in house' so to speak and so the only expenditure was on materials.
Construction process took place over several months due to members having their regular jobs to take care of, and took the following order.
It was decided that the meeting room and workshop should be open plan so that the workshop could be used as a meeting room overflow area if needed. Items of equipment in the workshop consist of the following, A double ended bench grinding wheel, Small bench mounted disc sander, Small bench mounted pillar drill, 2 small electric scroll saws, Small and Medium band saws and an antique lathe (still operational).1) Building was extended forwards (outlined in red).2) Upper floor constructed.
3) Dividing wall between meeting room and workshop was removed.
The upper floor is one large open space of 16ft x 42ft ( 5m x 13m). An ideal layout room. More about this room can be found in the our layouts area of the site.
